Waiting on the change fairy.

"I really want to be able to schedule my time better." "I really want to be able to meal plan and prep on the weekends so that week nights aren't so chaotic." "I really want to be able to speak confidently in meetings." "I really want to be able to keep my cool with my kids in that crazy time between school pick up and dinner."
These are all things I've said to myself over and over again. I want. I want. I want. I was under this illusion that my wanting would somehow translate into action. As if the more I wanted, the more a little change fairy would pay me a visit and bestow extra energy, time, and a whole new mindset on me so that then, and only then, could I make my wants a reality.
And then it happened (No, a fairy didn't magically sprinkle change sparkles on me). What happened was that I got tired of hearing myself. I grew tired of constantly wanting and not having, and decided the only way to change is to start.
Just start? That seems so dumb and obvious, and overwhelming and impossible! When you are in the midst of all the wanting just starting can be so daunting.
How you make the daunting manageable, is you choose one thing. I know. I know. You have big plans, dreams, and even bigger wants. Choosing one thing isn’t going to get you there! But you see, you and me, we are bundles of habit, and habits begin by one small thing that builds upon itself, continues to grow, gain momentum, and become impactful.
What’s one thing you can do today to make your wants a reality? Do that one thing. Do it again tomorrow and the next day. Continue to do that one thing until it’s no longer a conscious choice, it’s just who you are and what you do. Because then, my friend, you’ll be able to look back on that day you chose to do one thing and realize that’s the day you decided to just start.
